EDDM™ Every Door Direct Mail™ – .145 Postage!
EDDM™ is a program created by the USPS, intended for business use, that enables you to reach people who live in certain neighborhoods without needing their addresses. Because you don’t need to buy mailing lists, and because you bear some of the responsibility for getting your pieces ready to mail – the post office gives you a discount.
Only certain sizes of postcards – what the USPS refers to as “commercial flats” – are eligble for EDDM™ pricing. (Sorry, standard postcards are not eligible.) A commercial flat must be more than 6.125″ tall OR longer than 11.5″ wide but no larger than 12″x15″ to qualify.
Rather than buying mailing lists, you choose the areas of town you which to reach and select the mailing routes that cover those areas. Your mailing goes to every mailbox along those chosen routes; you must deliver to residences but may opt out of including businesses or PO boxes.
This is a terrific program that the post office is promoting heavily. It’s not QUITE as simple as it sounds – besides the size and weight requirements, you have to create an account with the USPS, print out their paperwork and bundle your postcards in a certain way before taking them to the post office.
